Plex has been hacked. The provider of the media server and player is now asking all customers to change their password.

Yesterday, the operators of Plex discovered suspicious activity in one of their databases. An investigation revealed that it appeared that a third party had access to a limited number of email addresses, user names and encrypted passwords. Explicitly not affected is data on credit cards and other means of payment, as these are stored on other servers. Although it is unclear whether any data was leaked at all, Plex has now sent an email to all users asking them to reset their passwords immediately.

. However, the huge server rush of users ensures that Plex.tv can only be reached with luck in the first hours after the information mail. In the meantime, however, the site seems to be working again and asks to reset the password immediately after logging in. . As for the attack, Plex says they have already looked into how the third party gained access to the system. To ensure that the security of the systems is further enhanced and can withstand future attacks, further reviews would be conducted.
